Present an Event or be a Reader at NRB ...

Thank you for your interest in being a presenter or reader at New Renaissance Bookshop (NRB). We work very hard to make sure our programs are of the highest quality and best fit for our store. To be considered please use the following guidelines:

1. All proposals must be submitted in writing to me in one of the following ways: e-mail, nrbevents@gmail.com; fax to 503-224-5438; or by mail to c/o Anna Bredahl/NRB, 1338 NW 23rd Ave, Portland, OR 97210. Proposals can be submitted at any time.

2. In your short proposal (1-2 pages or a small attachment by email) include:

• a description of what you would like to present (be specific about what you want to teach and what students will learn.) Very specific and practical events work best for our customers.

• your qualifications to do this work,

• any references,

• your name,

• your contact information: phone #, fax #, e-mail address, home address

• if you have one, include your press kit and copy of your book or CD

• and a professional, smiling photo.

• For emailed proposal attachments please give them a filename that includes your name or your business name and the date.

3. Please don’t expect to be contacted right after you submit your proposal. Due to the number of people I work with this is not possible. If you want an acknowledgement that your proposal was received, please submit it via email and I will reply.

4. Approximately every 2 months a new advertising cycle begins and all this information is brought to the event committee. The event committee decides whether or not your proposal is accepted. 

5. After the event committee reviews your proposal I will get back to you with the results. It may take 3-6 months to be considered for a spot in our schedule. And if you are chosen you will need to send a good smiling photo, a 90-word write-up of your event and a 30-word bio for yourself.

6. Readers need to be prepared to give a sample reading so that we can see how your work would fit with what we do at the bookshop. And again, I need your proposal in writing and I will contact you if you are considered. Readers receive 70% of the revenue from the readings they give to customers.

7. Evening events are from 7-8:30 pm and workshops do not begin before 10:30 am. If you are promoting a book or other materials you will go back to the store immediately after your event to sign books.

8. All presenters must be agree to the following points:

• We only work with presenters for evening events who are willing to show up no matter how many advance sign ups and with workshop presenters who are willing to do their workshop with a minimum of 3 (though in both cases we hope for many more).

• We collect all moneys from those who attend an event and split what we take in 50/50 with the presenter.
