With Ram Dass in our Hearts! Stories, Chanting, and Satsang

Betsy Toll, Sat. Jan. 18, 6:30-8:30pm, Free!

Ram Dass’s brilliant mind, sense of humor, and iconoclastic nature deeply influenced American culture for more than 50 years. He died peacefully at home on December 22, 2019. Author of the classic Be Here Now, he wrote more than a dozen books about spiritual growth, including Walking Each Other Home, in 2018. His final memoir, coauthored by Rameshwar Das, will be released in late 2020. Join us to remember Ram Dass, with Betsy Toll of Living Earth. We’ll hear stories of Hanuman and Neem Karoli Baba, chant a bit, and soak in more of Ram Dass’s experience in devotion and service. Ram Dass’s impact on each individual he touched was very personal, yet created a sense of belonging, an ineffable bond with others. Whether we connected with him through a book, magazine article, a podcast or tape, online or at a retreat, there is a shared recognition that Ram Dass pointed us toward a far more spacious understanding of what it is to be human and who we really are. In Ram Dass’s spirit of service, this event is open to all for no charge. (Anyone who is inclined will have an opportunity to offer a donation to Love Serve Remember Foundation, Seva Foundation, or to Living Earth’s Brown Bag Project, feeding people on the streets of Portland. These are all registered charitable nonprofit organizations.)

Betsy Toll worked with Ram Dass in the mid-1980s, coordinating a conference with him in Los Angeles for Seva Foundation. In 1998 she founded Living Earth in Portland, closely influenced by Ram Dass’s approach to spirituality and service. Living Earth offers opportunities to serve and to explore what it means to live with compassion and an open heart. Betsy leads dharma circles, workshops, and retreats for Living Earth.
